1875 - Buried in St. Michaels, Hamworthy with wife. Stories passed down to Eilleen McMullen were:

1. When his wife died "he had another woman on his knee"

2. That a "boom swung round hit him on the head and killed him".

3. That he was a very bad man which is why they gave him a grave so that he couldn't get out (look at the grave :) )!!!

Note on Husband: Thomas Arthur STOKES (4)

Was killed in the Solent whilst captain of a ship. The ship (Mistletoe) was struck by Queen Victoria's vessel (Alberta) with her onboard.

The vessel struck the mistletoe and "reversed" out. As it did this the Mistletoe sank. Rigging fell on Thomas and killed him.

There was a national enquiry and the family were paid off.
