In 1821 appeared in government "Pensions, Allowances, and Compensations" list. This was effectively a Profit and Loss account for Great Britain.

 

The entry reads:

 

Henry Stokes. Boatman. 10 years service. £20 annual allowance.

 

Interestingly his father in law William Stanley appears about him with an allowance of £20 annually for 12 years service.

Conviction: That on the 27th October 1834 defendant dredged in Poole waters and took 500 Oysters contrary to prohibition of the Mayor and to the Bye-laws.
