Arthur built his house at lower hamworthy in the same footings as the original house by the bridge. During the building work the family lived nextdoor with Frank McMullen

One night Arthur was approached at home by Sidney "Peck" Landray. Sidney asked if he could borrow any money, at which Arthur told him he couldn't.
The next day Arthur spoke to Frank McMullen who told him that Peck had been gambling again and lost money. If "Kelly" (Caroline Landray - Sidney's wife) was to find out he was going to be in trouble.

An incident occurred in later life. Arthur was caught by a policeman on the beach in Poole picking up scrap wood etc. He told the policeman "to go an catch real criminals".
Arthur was sentenced to 3 months at Dorchester prison.
